To the World Brand New, Arts Centre, Washington. 9am – 5pm, Free. Runs unil 16th October. ‘To the world Brand New’ is an inspiring exhibition of new and previously unseen works by two of the regions most accomplished contemporary glass artists, Sarah Blood and Phil Vickery. Although Blood and Vickery both work in the same medium the results are very different both technically and in the concepts behind the designs. Vickery uses the traditional skill of hot blowing glass to create intricate and graceful forms, which reflect the inner working of the conscious, subconscious, and the flowing energy that can be considered thought. Sarah’s sculptures use neon to striking effect. Her sculptures are bold, abstract works often inspired by external influences and philosophies that invite association to minimalist sculpture.
