Spark FM is Sunderland’s own community radio station. Based at the University of Sunderland’s St Peters Campus, Spark FM makes use of fantastic studios and the extensive experience of its staff to help create great community radio.
Spark FM is a community radio station serving the 15-24 year olds of Sunderland. Creating opportunities for people to tell their stories and contribute and even lead discussions that affect them.
We also offer the opportunity to get involved in Spark FM as volunteers, for whom we will provide full training and therefore no experience is needed and you don’t have to be 15-24 or live in Sunderland in order to get involved, but have an interest in Radio and a willingness to produce creative radio programmes for young people in Sunderland.
Spark FM will look at each individual’s skills and interests and encourage them to volunteer in areas of the station that suit their skills. There are many opportunities, both ‘on air’ and behind the scenes, as we have teams in production, sales, promotions, community liaisons, community programming to mention just a few.
As well as learning radio skills volunteers will also enhance and learn skills in:
* Confidence building
* Communication skills
* Team work and team building
* Organizational skills
* Community awareness
* Social awareness
* Media awareness
* Interpersonal skills
